Where does Lenns come from?
Anyone who has ever seen me during an icebreaker exercise has probably heard this story because it is one of my go-to anecdotes. The short answer is, it’s made up.
My family on my father’s side is Czecho-Slovakian, and their last name used to be Sochovka. My grandfather decided to change his last name to something that sounded more American. Though I seem to recall him giving us a few different stories as to how he came up with Lenns, his main claim was that Sochovka, loosely translated, means “of the eye.” Thus, the name Lenns was created and because he added the extra “n,” there are not many of us!
My family name is special to me and I always knew that if I were to ever start a business, I would want our name to be involved.
Cool, so why “fest”? It seems a little redundant…
When I was younger, we used to host parties at our house a few times a year. After a number of these events, one of our friends started calling the parties “LennsFests” and the name stuck. We hosted LennsFests for over ten years until myself and all of my siblings moved away. One day I was brainstorming company name ideas with my brother and he suggested bringing back LennsFest. Given that I was starting an event management company, it made sense! The rest is history.
